day 17 of #ridingeverydayinNovember

Today was day 17 of #ridingeverydayinNovember, and also the day to celebrate Joe Wheels' birthday.  No better way to celebrate a birthday of a cyclist, than to ride bike!  The event was organized by Marianna, a regular at the Thursday Night Ride.

Marianna, on the left of course.

We met at a cafe in SE Portland at 11 AM.  Some of us had brunch, others just partook of the bottomless Mimosas being offered. There was a soft start time, meet at 11 AM, begin riding no later than 2PM.  We had plenty of time to eat and visit while waiting for a few to arrive, and most noteworthy we were waiting for the birthday boy to arrive!

We did shove off at 2PM, right on time.

We pedaled down Clinton St, one of Portland's Neighborhood Greenways, formerly known as bike boulevards.

We reached the Willamette River and rode to the Memorial Coliseum, where we rode north on Williams Ave, another bike friendly street.  When we got to Skidmore St, we turned left and rode out to Mocks Crest.  Mocks Crest sets on a bluff overlooking the Willamette River.  We paused there for a bit to take in the view.

Joe was enjoying the day.

We then rode over to The Golden Pliers bike shop.  Not sure if it is a bike shop that also serves beer, or a beer shop that also fixes bikes, but it was fun!

Following the bike shop/beer stop, I took wished Joe a happy birthday, thanked Marianna for organizing, and took my leave.  They were going to be riding for many more hours and ending with a bonfire at Joe's house.  Much too late for an old guy like me!  ;-)

I rode down Interstate, noting where the traffic flow has been changed following the death of Brett Jarolimik.

I made it safely through that section today, and continued on to the East Bank Esplanade.

The sun had set by the time I got back to my pickup, but it was not yet dark.

It was a nice ride, and nice to see some of the TNR gang, who I've not biked with in over a year.
