I rode the Mt Adams Country Bicycle Tour today with a friend.
We rode the 105 mile "Infinity Ride", but found out post ride that they had intended for us to go completely back to the start after our lunch stop to start the second leg rather than take the turn when we got to it. It cut 2 miles off our route. Luckily I had two miles "in the bank" so I still got my 1500 for the month.
It was warm, in the upper 60's when we started and into the mid 70's by afternoon.
We did the Forest Loop first and it was a very beautiful route. There were some clouds in the sky that obscured most of Mt Adams in the morning but the roads were awesome. VERY low traffic volume.
The weather was perfect. We rode most of the day in short sleeves and bare legs. We'd put on jackets for the bigger descents. We were very close to Mt Adams, and as we'd pedal down through the little side canyons we'd feel a torrent of cold air making it's way down the hill.
The route was supported with well placed water and snacks spots.
Following our "Forest Loop" we had a full lunch stop, then moved onto the "Valley Loop".
By afternoon the clouds had lifted enough to give us an unimpeded view of Mt Adams, we were farther away by that time however.
As the afternoon progressed we noticed a cloud building that looked to be promising a thunderstorm for someone later today. I don't know about a thunderstorm, but I do know we ended up getting a bit of rain. It lasted from about mile 95 until mile 100, and was very light. The roads really never got wet, and neither did we. By the time we got to the finish the roads were completely dry.
6570 total elevation gain (per Garmin)
118bpm average heart rate
6204 calories burned
103.37 miles
The organizers served us an excellent dinner following the ride,
It was a good day to go for a ride, and nice to get 1500 for the month.
