Thursday!

It is Thursday again and time to have #BikesInTheStreets!

It happened to be the ride organizer's birthday and there were going to be fireworks at the end of the ride.  What a way to celebrate!

I rode in from Sellwood.

We met at Salmon Street Springs as usual, but an hour earlier than usual.

The group was a bit smaller, likely because of the predicted chance of rain. Still, by the time we rolled out, there was a decent sized group of folks.

The cooler weather might have affected motorists as well.  We had more impatient drivers tonight.  At one point as our group rode by, a parked car decided to enter the traffic lane, which we had pretty much claimed with 70ish bikes traveling along.  The 30ish female driver started to pull out and was met with a verbal assault , "hey, look out!".  She kept pulling out, now adding a solid horn blast to the mix.  She ended up about 1/2 way out into the lane at a 45 degree angle. Some bikes did their best to avoid the mess, others went out of their way to assert our right to the road. The car eventually got out into the lane (after our group passed) then got stuck behind us at the red light at the next intersection. She must have had a broken horn, or a really bad day. She was not happy about having to wait behind us at the light.  It was not like she could have gone through anyway.

Our route tonight stayed close to the river.

As we rolled across the Hawthorne Bridge we had a break as we waited for a bridge lift.
It gave us a chance to take in the sights.  It was a nice night for a ride.

As per usual, we made a stop to pick up some post ride refreshment.

We rolled along the river.  Despite the chance for rain, we had a dry ride.

Before too long we staked out a section of river front and settled in for the fireworks.

It was a pretty good fireworks show!  After the fireworks the group began to break up, and I rode back southward on the Springwater Trail to Sellwood.

It was my first ride this month, and a great night on the bike.
I ended up with 18 miles on the fixie.
