My dad's old John Deere 4020 tractor did not have a clutch but did have an "inching pedal" used for creeping up to an implement or at other times when even an idle was too fast for close quarters.
This week my bike riding reminds me of that "inching" forward. I've already got my ride on Sunday preceeding my little 10k celebration mapped at 10 miles. I am leading a short ride of unknown distance on Thursday to spread a little holiday cheer via song. I'm guessing that ride may be about 15-20 miles.
I was signed up to ride with my social bike club tomorrow evening, but I got off work at a reasonable time and the forecast for tomorrow calls for a chance of rain.
I sent my regrets to tomorrow's ride leader and hopped on the bike tonight with clear blue skies above.
I "inched" 30 miles closer to that 10,000 mile number. If the Christmas Caroling ride logs 15-20 miles, and the 10k celebration ride is 10 miles that means I still have to get 5-10 miles between Friday morning and Sunday noon (when the 10k ride starts).
That will be easy enough to do. It is harder to NOT ride the bike!
Tonight's ride went from the Steel Bridge along the East Bank Esplanade, along the Springwater Corridor, then north on the I-205 bike path to Rocky Butte, along Fremont Street a few blocks, then retrace back to the Steel Bridge. A good ride, and cold!
