I didn't know the intended route well enough to try to chase them down. Luckily there was an alternate reality available. I was within a few hundred yards of the 40 Mile Loop that I've been riding a lot in the last several weeks. I parked at Jantzen Beach and began around the 40 Mile Loop starting from the opposite end from where I normally start from.
It was a cool evening. I did not bring my usual cold weather gear of shoe covers and glove liners and my toes and fingers complained a bit, but I did my best to ignore their protestations.
It was a good ride, the roads were dry, the sky was clear. It was a nearly perfect way to spend a Winter Solstice evening. Of course sitting in front of a crackling fire with a cup of hot cocoa in hand might trump this!
