Day 9 of #ridingeverydayinNovember

Today we are 500 miles farther north than we were yesterday, but still there is fog. There was a thick blanket of the cool mist hanging over the American and Sacramento Rivers this morning. We would not wait for it to clear as we would be on a multi-use path all day (safe from cars) and we planned to be another 500 miles up the road by the end of the day.  We were spinning pedals by 7:30 am.

In less than 10 miles the fog had cleared and we ended up with a nice day. The American River Trial was not busy by any means, but those that were there appeared to be mostly commuters.

We saw quite a bit of wildlife.  We expected deer, but instead saw turkeys!

and an Egret

and Mallards

and Turkey Vultures!

We continued along the gently climbing path along the Sacramento River. It was a nice day for a bike ride.

A fish weir directs andromedus fish into fish ladders to get around the dam.

We reached Lake Natoma, a reservoir on the Sacramento River below our destination, Folsom Dam.

We played tourist and stopped to read all the informational signs.

Dave was happy to still be able to navigate using more primitive methods. ;-)

We arrived at Folsom Dam, and had a more distinct climb to get around it.  Folsom Reservoir still has a long way to go to be full, after being nearly dry a year ago.

Dave and I spent a bit of time at a visitor center near the dam before turning back toward Sacramento.

It was our last ride in the California sunshine.  We'd be back in NW Oregon by tonight.  We've had fun!
