tough enough

My Race Across Oregon partner and I went for a bike ride today.
It looked like this:

Lauren hasn't been feeling well this week but she showed herself to be tough as nails. She was feeling nauseous today as we made our way over 4000 ft of climbing in the first 40 miles but she did exactly what you'd expect a serious RAO competitor to do........she kept quiet and pedaled onward. Along with the hills we had a pretty brisk headwind for the first half of today's planned 100 miler that added to the "training" aspects.

When we got near Keizer she finally admitted that she wasn't feeling well and was wondering if there was any way to cut miles. We turned northward and headed back towards Wilsonville doing our best to avoid hills. We had the wind at our back for about half of the return trip until it petered out.

We ended up with 88 miles with a 15.2 average pace and 4657 ft of climbing according to the Garmin.

Tomorrow I lead another "Training Series" ride for my social bike group. We ride from Scholls Heights out to Hagg Lake where we'll have a chance to watch the final OBRA Banana Belt bike races.
