May 1st

Today is a rarity, there wasn't a cloud in the sky and it would reach 80 degrees in Seattle!

Julie had made plans to meet up with friends who where biking from Marymoor Park on the east side of Lake Sammamish. The plan was for Julie and I to ride from Gasworks Park and meet them somewhere near the end of the Burke-Gilman Trail. We would have a mile or two longer to ride, but that wouldn't be bad at all.  This would be Julie's 2nd bike ride all year, and the longest by 50%, but spirits were high.

We pedaled along Lake Washington and had a good view of the Cascade Mtn Range across the water.

We had shoved off early to allow Julie to take a more relaxed pedal.  She pedaled consistently, and surprisingly strong, for someone who hasn't really biked this year.  We moved along so quickly that we had time to stop for some goofiness.

We arrived at our meeting point just a few minutes before David and Berniece pedaled up.  We rode back a mile or so to Starbucks, where we took an hour break.

As we sat there we were entertained by 4 eagles circling overhead.

I managed to get 3 of the 4 in one photo
Having visited sufficiently, we each pedaled back from where we came.

Julie was tired, but kept pedaling along.  She even got into a spirited pace after being passed by a young woman on a flat bar knobby tired bike.  I was pedaling along at 18 mph, and losing ground, as Julie put her head down and pedaled hard.  She kept that up for a surprising distance, before the young gal turned off the trail and onto a neighborhood street.  Suddenly the wind was out of Julie's sails, and she was back down to her normal 12-13 mph.  As long as she kept pedaling I was happy.

We arrived back at Gasworks and made a beeline back home for tacos!
