Chocolate Centers

I had planned to join a group for a short ride in Washington County today.  It was predicted to be warm.  There was some discussion in the days leading up to the ride that the start time should be moved up a bit, in an effort to beat the heat.  That sentiment was being offset by those that planned a late night out the night before with Independence Day fireworks celebrations.  Eventually those who had self described "chocolate centers" won out and the starting time was moved up to 8AM in Hillsboro.

It was a fun ride. I again took the fixed gear bike.  The group of 30 riders broke in 3 groups based on expected speed on the road.  I figured I could keep up with the 15-16 mph group, so rode with them.

It was fun.

I hope too many of those chocolate centered folks didn't melt, because I don't think we beat the heat too much.  Sure, it will be warmer as the day goes on, but after our ride we met for lunch.  As we finished lunch and headed toward home it was 87 degrees.  Warm enough to soften chocolate!
