We had one rider in our group who was on a heavier bike with a more upright position and wide tires, think almost a "comfort bike". While that style of bike may be more comfortable for some people, it makes keeping up with road bikes very difficult. By the time we got to Sauvie Island, we had dropped him. We waited for quite awhile but finally proceeded on our way around the island. We found out later that the guy turned around and went back to the shop. :-(
Sauvie Island is a rural oasis near Portland. It is popular with cyclists, beach lovers, and sun worshipers.
We took the first turn to the left, normally an out and back, that sent us along Sauvie Island Rd and Multnomah Channel.
We took a turn to the right and followed a gravel road along what would seem to be the Gilbert River, though with the many interconnected waterways, drainage ditches, and backwater sloughs, it is difficult to know for sure.
We soon connected back to Oak Island Rd, normally another out and back, then back to Reeder Rd and continued our circuit of the island.
We stopped at the Sauvie Island Store and had a few snacks and topped off our water bottles, then proceeded back to Portland.
It seemed that other folks were out enjoying the day also!
It was a good day on the bike. Facebook chatter following the ride went thusly:

Didn't we see this rolling bar in Fremont, during the parade?
ReplyDeleteI doubt it, it says "brewcycleportland.com on the awning. I doubt they'd haul it all the way to Seattle, but stranger things have happened.
