26 cold miserable miles around Lake Samammish. Freezing fog and a headache added to the misery. Details to follow. (via text message.)
I joined 5 others today on a Cascade Bicycle Club Daily Ride. Cascade has a very robust ride calendar, offering several rides on most days.
The weather left a little to be desired. The ride leader left a little to be desired as well. A ride leader is the face of a bike club and it is my belief that ride leaders should be well vetted. Today a new ride leader was finishing the process of becoming a ride leader by co-leading this "mentored ride".
I hope she saw what not to do as well as what to do.
My biggest issue was several instances of what I'd consider unsafe actions. At least we all came home okay, and no car drivers were overly irate.
I had a headache for most of the ride. It was 32 degrees as we started, and despite a forecast of mid 40's for a high, it was 32 as we finished. There was a few miles where the fog froze on the vegetation and the scene was worth a photo, but I just wanted this ride to be done and any delay to get the camera out of the pack was way down on my list of priorities.
Things will get better.

A wet dry run
I have an appointment tomorrow in downtown Seattle. I'm not all that familiar with the area, especially the construction and parking issues. I took a dry run today on my bike to scope things out. I bundled a couple of other stops for lunch and to print some documents while I was out. It pretty much drizzled to rained the whole time. Welcome to Seattle. ;-)

Pea Brains
4 of us rode from Renton to Black Diamond Bakery and back today. No rain, no wind, no brains. Well, I'm referring to the 4 ....no good way to put this..... assholes behind steering wheels. Scattered through our 41 mile ride today were 4 drivers who obviously need to be required to retake their driver's test. It's a good thing I didn't catch up with them.
I made a few laps of the parking lot at the end of our ride while waiting for the rest of the party, enough to bring the total to a whopping 41 miles.

2013.
I woke up on this first day of 2013 in San Diego to usual San Diego weather, 55-60 degrees, and dry. Last year I rode with a group in Chino on the way home, but this year they were riding to the Rose Parade beginning at 7AM. While that sounded like fun, I just didn't want to have to get up at 4AM to be there on time after New Year's Eve festivities. I was also invited to join a group in San Diego for a 60+ mile ride, but didn't think I had the time to do that since I had a time schedule to adhere to and it just wasn't going to allow 4 hours of riding. Instead, I decided to go for a leisurely ride around Mission Bay. It's an area I know well since I spent 6 weeks here a few years ago helping a friend. I was staying near Sea World, so I started my loop there.
I made my way around to Crown Point, where I had spent many hours remodeling a condo, in exchange for being shown around the area by "the San Diego Tour Guide".
After I finished the ride I noted that it was exactly 13 miles in length, fitting on this first day of 2013!
