TNR 130

What a difference a week makes.  The Thursday Night Ride always meets at 7PM,  with pedals spinning beginning at 7:30PM.  At the height of summer we could begin when the sun was still high in the sky, and could even finish the ride at 10PM with light in the sky. Last week the sun had just set as we gathered, this week it was dark.  Finally, the Thursday Night Ride was going to be at NIGHT!  ;-)

In the beginning, there were bikes in the streets, and God looked around and said "this is good".

                   . .

It was a full moon night, but the crazies remained in check.  We didn't even have any tall bikes in attendance!  It had been 75 F during the day, but for some reason I had been cold all day.  I wore long cycling pants, a medium weight long sleeved jersey, and a wind breaker.  I'm glad I did. As the sun went down so did the temperature. It was in the high 30's as we wrapped things up tonight, but back to the story.

Eric Thornburg got this great photo of TNR taking to the streets.

It was a nice, if a bit cool, evening.  A lot of people were outdoors enjoying an after dinner drink, latte, or whatever.  Most wondered what was going on, after all, the sight of 150 people riding by on bikes isn't something they see every day.   As we passed by a bar, all of the patrons cheered us on, a couple even mooned us! :-)   Take a listen at 1:52 into this clip taken right after one of our food stops. A question is asked, and a group responded with the obvious answer!

.                     . ..

We had three food stops in all.  3 stops in 12 miles!  It's all okay, gave us a chance to share the joy.  We even recruited a few new participants.

The ride ended up on the banks of the Willamette River along the Springwater Corridor, it was a perfect point for me to exit the group and continue along Springwater Corridor back to Riverside Park, where I started from this evening.  The full moon helped light the way.
