Bad dreams?
Broken dreams?
Probably best catagorized as dreams not yet realized.
I just got a call from Sandy's crew.
Sandy has decided to pull out of RAAM.
She made it just short of Camdenton, MO.
It's a lot of time, training, and expense to do these kind of events. You give a good portion of your life to get in shape mentally and physically to even participate. Not finishing is often not about not being in good enough shape, but just one aspect of the many things that need to stay together not staying together.
Sandy is one of the toughest riders I know. I know a thing or two about how it feels to not finish. I know she gave it her best under the conditions. That's all anyone can expect.
I hope she and her crew are able to look past the disappointment and find some enjoyment in the remaining days of RAAM as well as a good trip home.
We are still proud of Oregonian Sandy Earl!
